Should I host my party at home

I am often asked, "Where should I host my party? Should I host my party at home?" Hosting a party at home is definitely a way to cut costs for your party but before you decide the location, here are a few pointers to keep in mind:
Hosting your party at home gives you the flexibility to plan anything. Most venues have certain restrictions on what can be done or cannot be done on their premises. So if your event falls within their requirements, this will not be a problem. However, if you wanted to put up certain decorations and they prohibit that, then you will have to do away with your decoration or find another venue. Having your party at home eliminates this problem.
How many guests do you plan on having and do you have room for everyone to be comfortable? This is an important factor many people tend to oversee. I have been to parties where I don't even have a place to sit because there are just too many people. So if you really want to have your party at home but don't have that much room, you can shrink your guest list so every guest ends up having a good time and not cooking up some excuse in their mind to leave your party early because they are uncomfortable. If you don't want to shrink your guest list, you can plan your party in 2 different sessions. Yes, it will be more work for you, but your guests will have a better time. You can divide your guests by groups. Maybe you plan on inviting people from work and parents of your children's friends. You can invite your colleagues first and then the parents later on.
Another overlooked area is serving space. Have you been to a party and there is some food laid on the dining table, some on the kitchen stove, and some on the island? And you are wondering what is where? It happens. Plan your menu and where you intend to serve your food way early. Because it gives you sufficient time for contingencies.
Do you have your party indoors or outdoors, in your backyard? Either way works, depending on the theme of your party, but always work out a wet weather plan. If the weather turns bad, can you instantly move your party indoors? Have that dedicated area ready prior to your party.
Do you have the logistics to host your party at home? It's your dad's 50th birthday and you and your siblings are creating a video covering the important milestones in your dad's life. Do you have a screen and projector where you can project the video, so your dad and all your guests can enjoy the journey down memory lane? If you do not, it does not mean you cannot have the party home. You still can, by renting any equipment you may need for the party, from your local store. Or try asking your guests, someone may end up having what you are looking for and will be more than happy to bring it along to the party.
Are you ok cleaning up after your party? Parties are fun but there is always tons of cleaning up after a party. Are you game for that? Do you have anyone to help you? If you are not prepared for mess, then you should consider hiring a place for your party.
I hope the above points will help you for your next party so you not only have it all planned out but you also have a great party.
